How Much Does Car Insurance Cost in Reno?

Car insurance costs in Reno depend on your coverage level, your vehicle, your driving record, and your ZIP code, so there is no single price that applies to everyone. As a statewide benchmark, Nevada drivers pay an average of about $80 per month for state-minimum coverage and about $152 per month for full coverage (MoneyGeek, 2026 data). Your own rate may be higher or lower.
About 8.8% of Nevada drivers were uninsured as of 2022 (Insurance Information Institute), which is one reason uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage matters here.

Nevada Minimum Car Insurance Requirements (25/50/20)

Nevada law requires every driver to carry at least the following liability coverage, often written as 25/50/20: For official guidelines on state requirements and registration, you can visit the official Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles website.

CoverageNevada minimum
Bodily injury liability (per person)$25,000
Bodily injury liability (per accident)$50,000
$20,000
Property damage liability

These are state minimums. Higher limits are recommended, because the cost of a serious accident can easily exceed them. GoAuto can help you choose the right limits while keeping your premium low.

Is Car Insurance Required in Reno, Nevada?

Yes. Car insurance is mandatory in Nevada, and Reno is no exception. Nevada is an at-fault (tort) state, not a no-fault state, so the driver who causes an accident is responsible for the resulting injuries and damage. Driving without insurance in Nevada can lead to fines, reinstatement fees, suspension of your vehicle registration and license, and an SR-22 filing requirement. If you need an SR-22, GoAuto can help you file fast and stay covered.

What Car Insurance Covers in Reno

A Reno car insurance policy can include several types of coverage:

  • Liability – pays for injuries and property damage you cause to others. Required in Nevada.
  • Collision – pays to repair your own vehicle after an accident.
  • Comprehensive – covers theft, vandalism, weather, and other non-collision damage.
  • Uninsured / underinsured motorist – protects you if you are hit by a driver who has no insurance or too little. This matters in Nevada, where the uninsured-driver rate is among the highest in the country.

Nevada’s state minimum only covers liability, so it will not repair your own car or protect you against an uninsured driver. GoAuto can build a low-cost policy around what you actually need
